You just never know what will be a big hit with children. A friend sent me a YouTube clip of Sound of Music Central Station Antwerp (Belgium) and my dd was just enthralled, to the point where we ordered The Sound of Music DVD from the library and she taught herself 'Do Re Mi' on the piano.

Back to the Wild

This week we enjoyed our time reading and talking about Birds of Prey. Our Home school group met at the nature center for a class and we’ve been reading books about this special group of birds ever since. A favorite is In Good Hands, which is about what it's like at a center for orphaned and injured birds. My daughter loves this book and asks me to read it over and over again.
I have always wanted to learn to knit….this year we were invited to join a bi-weekly craft ‘tea’ by a dear friend and it has been such a joy spending time with good friends and learning something new. I am in the beginning stages of knitting a baby blanket for our daughter who is due in May. I’m praying that I am able to finish the project on time, but also that I enjoy the time creating it.

Snow Day!

What is it about a snow day that makes everyone just giddy? This was an especially good once since my husband’s office closed the day before, so the festivities started right away with big plans for the big snow!
Here are some pictures from the glorious day…and our snow fort which my DH and daughter worked on for hours…We then ended the day with hot chocolate and juice from our new juicer. We made Fruit Cooler, which included oranges, limes, sparkling mineral water and an orange slice for garnish. Yummm!

I almost forgot!

So, for my second post I thought I'd mention that after 14 years of marriage, I'm expecting a baby. Basically, the doctors said 'no' and God said 'why not?' Tomorrow I will be 26 weeks, or 6 months, and I am feeling great! My daughter is over the moon she is so excited.

My poor husband is excited too, but experiencing indigestion and high triglycerides. I'm trying to do something about that so I am making recipes from our dusty South Beach Diet Cookbook. Tonight I made Savory Chicken Saute, along with quinoa, snow peas and a green salad. It was delicious! And then we took our very first 'tummy' picture. My daughter loves to play 'baby in the belly,' so why not play together? :)
I created this blog last summer and this is my first post. I have no idea why it's taken me this long...but I'm glad I'm here!

I am a homemaker, wife and mother living in Westchester County, NY. After college, graduate school, and 10 years as a marketing executive in Manhattan, I quit my job to raise, nurture and educate my daughter. She is adopted from China, the love of my life, and no page in this blog could fit all the wonderful things I could write about my life being home with her...but I am going to try.

I want to be Mindful of Home...mindful of my husband, my daughter, my God, who 'created me in His image' and delights in me no matter how many times I fail. I want to convey joy, peace and a gratefulness for my life and all of its blessings. I know it's not possible to capture every moment, but I'm going to try my best and have fun doing it.

Please feel free to comment as you'd like. I look forward to meeting new friends and encouraging old ones.

Ahhhhh, the first post is written. That wasn't so hard!
